Artist Biography

Leila Sultan  graduated from Kingston in 2023 and went on to build a small company -leimoncreations- founded on the creations of her handcrafts in ceramics. It started with a series inspired by the sea for her third year project and she fond that she just truly enjoyed the making process. The getting messy, the creative leeway to paint and splash as you want and the way you pull out a product from the kiln never truly knowing what to expect.

“I consider myself a multimedia artist, I can work with more than just pottery. I can rener realistically with oil paints and that’s where my artist career really began. But I can comission for commerical work and bookmake in abstract printmaking. I just really like to experiment. But one thing I can always stick to until my arms start to ache would be ceramics.”

Pottery is something that artisans really make look easy. You watch them build up a piece from a lump of clay and they really inspire a want to sculpt, but when you try it out you realise it was so much harder than it looked. A careful concentration on how much pressure you put into the clay and consistency on the wheel. A gentle and precise brush stroke of the glaze. The art of cermaics is that no two pieces are the same. Each little dent and the way the glaze fires with different specks gives each vessel it’s own individual personality.
